Fill Yourself Up by Recognizing Your Employees Every Day

employee appreciation

Employee Appreciation Day With Employee Appreciation day approaching, a story that sticks out to me often is when I was working for an organization that, for the first time ever, went through the process of restructuring. It left me overseeing an area of the workplace, but I no longer had any team members of my … Read more

Do You Exercise Inclusive Listening?

leadership meeting listening

I had a recent team meeting where I brought our Caring Leadership coaches together to discuss an idea regarding the community. The call ended up going in an entirely different direction, but ended up in an amazing place. As the conversation grew, many strong opinions came forth on all sides, but I trusted each of them … Read more

Leadership Values: Do You Practice What You Preach?

leadership values wine napa valley

What Are Your Values? I recently traveled to Napa, California with my husband for a weekend, and throughout the trip, we attended many wine tastings (as one does in wine country). We absolutely enjoyed our time there, but I noticed a common theme with the tour guides. They often mentioned that they did not want … Read more

Staying Engaged in the Virtual World

zoom virtual meeting

Virtual Workplaces I recently spoke at an event where a few of the audience members admitted that they hadn’t been engaging as much with their team because of now being virtual. They said that regularly scheduled one-on-ones and town halls had been canceled because of the inability to meet in person. Learning to accept these … Read more

The Back Seat Side of Caring Leadership

back seat of caring leadership

Taking the Back Seat My family and I were on our way to church this past week, and instead of sitting in the passenger seat, I took the back seat and let my son sit up front due to a leg injury. As we drove, I realized how clearly I could experience the environment in … Read more

What Excuses Are You Making in 2022?

“I want to move forward in my career, but I’m too unsure to ask for a promotion.” Or “I want to be a better manager, but it’s hard to change my ways and make people feel heard.” How about “I want to lose weight, but I’m not willing to give up junk food.” Less excuses, … Read more

Making Better Choices in 2022

making better choices in 2022

Decisions, Decisions… I was walking with my son one day, and he said to me: “Everything starts with a decision, which is just really a choice. We all have to make a series of choices. That gets us where we are today.” He went on to say that as he makes choices, he would do … Read more

Handling Layoffs with Dignity

layoff better ceo

The Ugly Truth I’m sure you’ve heard about the CEO from Better.com who recently laid off 900 of his employees over a Zoom call. Sure, he came forth to apologize eventually, but a late apology often seems as empty as the cold delivery that started it all. I mean 900 employees, wow! If you haven’t … Read more

How Favoritism Plays a Role in Workplace Conflict

Self Awareness and Bias It’s in our nature as humans to build friendships with those we come in close contact with regularly. This is what we call affinity bias. For most of us, many of those friendships form with people we work with. However, whether it be a fellow employee, a subordinate, or someone who … Read more

Becoming Unshakeable Podcast

With Heather R. Younger

Becoming Unshakable is the podcast for leaders, creators, and changemakers who know TRUE LEADERSHIP starts from within.

Each episode explores what it takes to lead with resilience, compassion, and purpose while staying human through it all.

Through candid conversations with executives, frontline leaders, coaches, and everyday heroes, Heather uncovers the real stories behind growth, compassion, setbacks, and transformation.

From navigating change to creating emotionally safe cultures, Becoming Unshakable reveals what it really takes to create leaders—and organizations—that can’t be shaken.

Hi, I'm Heather

I've been through every type of
ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE
you can think of.

Layoffs, reorgs, mergers, acquisitions and major technology shifts. More than 20 years leading teams through high-stakes situations where results mattered, people depended on me, and decisions couldn't wait.

Those years taught me how to lead. But they also showed me the hidden cost of always being the one who holds it all together.

During our second reorg in less than a year, I walked out of a meeting with no say in what was happening, just marching orders. When my team asked how the meeting went, I should have said, “Give me 15 minutes to process this.” But I didn't. Instead, I let them absorb every ounce of my frustration.

Then I saw their faces.

The people who looked to me for stability had just watched me unravel. What was that teaching them about their ability to handle the pressure?

That moment changed how I saw my role as a leader. Leading teams isn't only about grit or resilience. It's about how your presence builds the trust your team needs to function when things get hard.

Today, I help organizations build unshakable leaders, teams, and cultures. Because when leaders become the calm teams can count on, organizations don't just survive change, they come out strong enough to handle what’s next.
