virtual world

Whether it was at the height of the pandemic or recently, if you’ve gone through the transition from an in-office environment to now working fully remote – your listening skills may feel like they’ve taken a big hit. Seeking to understand and listening (the right way) have proven to be strenuous battles as many leaders … Read more

Scaling Caring Leadership to Fit Your Team Growth

scaling business

A reader of my book wrote to me and said, “If there is one area where I’d love to have seen a bit more focus (maybe for the next book!) it would be on transitions.” They said they have managed teams over the years that would typically range between 20-35 employees. Stating that with a … Read more

Seeking to Understand When Things Get Heated

conflict resolution

You likely read this title and thought, “Sure, seeking to understand is easy when things are calm, but how does this active listening thing differ when trying to understand someone when one of us is angry?” Great question! It can certainly be difficult to step back and assess the situation when emotions are awry, especially … Read more

Overcoming Isolation When Working Remotely

overcoming isolation remote work

In the midst of Covid-19, a vast majority of leaders transitioned employees from a face-to-face environment to working virtually and for many, that became permanent. In the beginning, I think we could all agree that it was a bit of relief being home with the unknown balance of the world, but fast-forward a few years, … Read more

Are You Confident in Your Leadership?

confident leadership

Being Confident One thing that happens a lot at my speaking engagements or workshops is I’ll ask the audience if they’ve done certain behaviors within leadership, negative or positive, naming off a few this or that. When the behavior is positive, nearly every hand raises, and people are willing to share their wins. But when … Read more

What My Teenage Daughter Taught Me About Listening to Ourselves

When it comes time to send our kiddos off to college, I feel like I speak for most parents when I say that we always have an input or two. The location, distance, or majors that are offered – whatever it may be. Like most families, we went through the process with my daughter of … Read more

Self-Awareness Test – Are You Open to Hearing the Hard Things?

open to hearing new things

I was speaking with someone recently who had expressed to me that a few employees at their job were so unhappy that they were staging a walkout. They felt underpaid, their voices unheard, and just felt a general lack of appreciation. So this team member went to management to let them know what was about … Read more

Leadership 101: Don’t Make ASSumptions

leadership

What They Don’t Tell You I recently had a fellow leader recall a time when a team member of his who he assumed wanted to be promoted and move up within their organization. When they finally had the chance to sit down and chat about it together, she expressed to him that she had changed … Read more

Seen & Unseen Disabilities in the Workplace

the seen and unseen disabilities at work

What Isn’t Seen Disabilities in the workplace, both seen and unseen, can often leave us wondering how to lead our people in the most effective and supportive way. Especially when they’re visibly going through a rough patch. One leader shared with me that when he discovered one of his employees was struggling with anxiety, he … Read more

Becoming Unshakeable Podcast

With Heather R. Younger

Becoming Unshakable is the podcast for leaders, creators, and changemakers who know TRUE LEADERSHIP starts from within.

Each episode explores what it takes to lead with resilience, compassion, and purpose while staying human through it all.

Through candid conversations with executives, frontline leaders, coaches, and everyday heroes, Heather uncovers the real stories behind growth, compassion, setbacks, and transformation.

From navigating change to creating emotionally safe cultures, Becoming Unshakable reveals what it really takes to create leaders—and organizations—that can’t be shaken.

Hi, I'm Heather

I've been through every type of
ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE
you can think of.

Layoffs, reorgs, mergers, acquisitions and major technology shifts. More than 20 years leading teams through high-stakes situations where results mattered, people depended on me, and decisions couldn't wait.

Those years taught me how to lead. But they also showed me the hidden cost of always being the one who holds it all together.

During our second reorg in less than a year, I walked out of a meeting with no say in what was happening, just marching orders. When my team asked how the meeting went, I should have said, “Give me 15 minutes to process this.” But I didn't. Instead, I let them absorb every ounce of my frustration.

Then I saw their faces.

The people who looked to me for stability had just watched me unravel. What was that teaching them about their ability to handle the pressure?

That moment changed how I saw my role as a leader. Leading teams isn't only about grit or resilience. It's about how your presence builds the trust your team needs to function when things get hard.

Today, I help organizations build unshakable leaders, teams, and cultures. Because when leaders become the calm teams can count on, organizations don't just survive change, they come out strong enough to handle what’s next.
